About Us

Mamak Nourbakhsh first opened her private art gallery in Tehran, Iran in 2001, where she exhibited works by Contemporary Iranian artists and established Traditional masters. Over the years the visitors to the gallery increased particularly among non Iranians and Iranian expats who were interested in learning about the life and thoughts of various Iranian artists.

In 2008 Gallery Mamak went online in order to reach a wider audience and to allow artists a place to voice their thoughts and opinions through interviews and articles.

The audience for exhibitions of Contemporary Iranian art has increased widely during the last ten years as general awareness and interest in Contemporary Iranian art has developed both within Iran and abroad.

Today Gallery Mamak aims to provide an innovative forum for Iranian artists, presenting work by young artists and by established Iranian masters whose work has been rarely or never exhibited online. In order to achieve this end and in order to be able to address a larger audience Gallery Mamak has been set up to be simultaneously easy to use and informative.

We Have A Vision

It is through the experience of fine art and its subtle and yet powerful language that people deepen their appreciation of life, raise their awareness, communicate and thus enrich their lives.

Iranians take great pride in their reputation as a role model for all countries in the Middle East in the fields of art, history and culture. However, the world knows little about Iranian artwork. Hence we have found it necessary to overcome this obstacle and to allow Iranian artists a place to voice their thoughts and exhibit their work.

The present site is unique in that it is the first English site whose purpose is to introduce Iranian artists to the world. It is also unique in the ease with which it functions. Visitors can easily view pictures, read about specific artists and be familiarized with the Iranian art scene.

The site will introduce one major Iranian artist regularly and interview various artists to allow them to introduce their thoughts, their world, their work and their perspectives on life. Budding artists will also be methodically introduced here.

There will be links that will work to bring more interaction between Iranian artists and art lovers.

We hold ourselves accountable to three guiding principles:

1. Unconventionality: we will offer new perspectives because it is only through novelty that man can grasp new perspectives.
2. Simplicity: learning is done best through simplicity of presentation hence the site will remain easily operable.
3. Collaboration: we will work with various artists, galleries, institutions, both within the country and outside.
